That’s right.  STOP!!!

STOP “going to” church and START “being a part” of the church.  SHIFT your perspective.

Now, before you pump your fist in the air and shout, “That’s right!!!” thinking you’ve effectively cleared your Sunday morning schedule (or whenever your church community may gather) for the foreseeable future, allow me to clarify: I’m NOT saying shift your physical location (i.e. sleep in, hit the golf course with a buddy, beautify your landscape & smile at your neighbor, thankful that you no longer have to “go there”), but rather, shift your perspective.  Christopher Smith says it well…

“…going to church” (as the phrase is commonly used) turns church into a consumer experience.  I could go (or not go) to church.  Either way, the driving force is not the church community, but ME.  So in addition to reflecting a consumer approach to church, the language of “going to church” reflects the individualism of our times. ~Christopher Smith

Church is not a place to “go to”, but a COMMUNITY to “be a part” of.  In light of this truth, there’s no room for “it’s just me and God” for those who claim themselves to be followers of Jesus (a.k.a. “Christians”).  You may not feel that YOU need the COMMUNITY (btw…you’re lying to yourself), but know this: the COMMUNITY needs YOU!!!

So, STOP “going to” church and START “being a part” of the church.  The church NEEDS you.

An associate and great friend of mine, Tim Bycroft, Lead Pastor of North Point Church (where I used to serve as Creative Arts Director), hit me up with a pretty insightful article that gives birth to this post.  For more detail, you can read that particular article HERE.

The Community of SummitLIFE gathers weekly at the Elks Lodge on Airport Rd in Sedona, AZ.  Join us for breakfast at 9:30AM & Gathering at 10AM.  Yes, we NEED you.
