This past Sunday marked our first official SummitLIFE gathering. We welcomed folks into our home with the intention of eating TOGETHER, worshiping TOGETHER, praying TOGETHER, learning TOGETHER, and dreaming TOGETHER. Bottom line, God created us to do LIFE in community…to do life TOGETHER.
All throughout Genesis, chapter 1, God spends each day creating and then concluding, “Yeah, man, that’s good!” Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6…all ultimately “good.” Actually, at the end of day 6, God steps back and examines all that He’s created and recognizes it as being “…very good.” Then, turn the page, and we see in Genesis 2 a flashback of sorts into the details of day 6, the creation of mankind. Heavens…Earth…Mankind…Garden…etc., etc., but THEN…
“Then the LORD God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be ALONE (Gen 2:18…emphasis mine).”
The words “not good” leap off of the page (especially since I’ve conveniently bolded them 😉 )! Huh?!? I thought that all that God had made was good??? Well, ultimately it was, but not initially. Why? Because it’s not good for any of us to be alone. We were each created in the Imago Dei (image of God…see Gen. 1:26). God Himself is a COMMUNITY of Father, Son, & Spirit, living in perfect unity with one another. We’ve been created for that same type of community! It’s not good for you to be alone. We need each other.
This is LIFE-TOGETHER. This is COMMUNITY. This is SummitLIFE!!!
