While biking at the freestyle park yesterday with my 8-year-old son, my right knee reminded me that I’m no longer a teenager.  Now, let it be known that I’m a pretty cautious rider…I tend to work my way into new challenges on the bike rather than going all out these days (because I’m not a teenager anymore…AND I have a family to care for 😉 ).  That being said, I rode hard into a half-pipe, and at the peak of the turn, felt something odd in my right knee.  I rode out of the pipe and paused to examine what that feeling may have been, only to find that I couldn’t straighten my leg?!?  With a bit of work (and pain) it straightened out, but then refused to bend beyond a certain point.  Oddly enough, it doesn’t hurt to walk, run, or even ride my bike…but when I bend my leg like this…AHHHH!!!!  I’m still unsure of exactly what I’m experiencing even as I type this blog 16 hours later.  I suppose time will tell.

Truth be told, no matter how much I try to fight it, I’m growing older.  *sigh*  That just seems to be the natural progression of things.  Cute, little, playful puppies turn into big, lazy dogs.  My first-born is getting ready to drive (which means that he’s pushing 16).  That person in the mirror, yeah, he’s looking more and more like my kids’ grandpa each passing day.  BUT…I witnessed something this past Sunday that was contrary to the “natural progression of things,” and I’ve gotta say, I hope…PRAY…it’s a pattern of things to come.

I’m not denying that Sunday marked the passing of yet another week for the community of SummitLIFE.  I’m not denying that we are, in fact, growing older (Sunday marked week #13 of our official gatherings…CLICK HERE to read about Week #1), which, honestly, is pretty exciting for me!  But what’s MORE EXCITING is that it seems as we grow older in regards to the number of weeks/months that SummitLIFE has been a community, we’re GROWING YOUNGER in terms of who is gathering with us!!!  I was totally stoked to see so many new faces this past weekend…and on top of that, young(er) faces!

There’s no question that the landscape of Sedona has much to offer the younger generations: hiking, climbing, biking (be careful with that one), skating, etc., but the community of Sedona doesn’t have much to offer them in the way of community…and that’s what SummitLIFE is all about.

I pray that SummitLIFE continues to have the privilege of growing older in terms of days, weeks, months, & years going by, but more-so, I pray that as we grow older we continue to GROW YOUNGER, offering  COMMUNITY to the overlooked, younger generations right here in Sedona!

One Response to growing…YOUNGER…
