Have you ever considered that each of our lives is its own story in progress? We’ve each been entrusted with the privilege & responsibility of serving as co-author in our personal story. I say “co-author” because the truth of the matter is, the pages and chapters of our lives aren’t written solely by us…nor are they written solely for us. No, in reality, each of our stories is part of a much BIGGER story that we’ve been welcomed into by a much more accomplished Author…THIS IS OUR GOD.
As each page is written, we, unlike traditional authors, don’t necessarily have the privilege of foresight…but HE DOES. We aren’t given total editorial freedom in determining our setting or outlining the details and history of each of our main characters, nor do we have final say in determining the overarching plot, climax, and resolution to our story…but HE DOES. THIS IS OUR GOD.
Some would argue that if this is the case, we’re not co-authors at all. They would lead you to believe that if this is our God, He’s equivalent to an immoveable, unbendable, impossible-to-work-with editor that refuses to give approval to any manuscript He’s presented with…unless it’s his own! In response to that mindset, allow me to pose a few questions:
- If you were a novice architect and you were invited to partner withfamous American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, would you count it a privilege, despite the likelihood that the overarching plans and the “buck stops here” decisions would likely fall into his experienced and capable hands? (THIS IS OUR GOD.)
- Invited to share the stage with Irish rockers, U2, would you roll your eyes and write it off as unfair whenever you discovered that you weren’t going to be given authority to outline the song-selection, design the staging, call the lighting cues, set the ticket prices, etc., or would you Tweet, Facebook, and Blog about how privileged you are to even be considered to share the stage with these rock icons? (THIS IS OUR GOD.)
THIS IS OUR GOD. And we are invited. Each chapter in our story may not make total sense to us…BUT IT DOES TO HIM. We may not desire for our story to be played out in the particular setting that we find ourselves in…but for some reason, this setting has been chosen by the more accomplished Author for His purposes. HE IS the Frank Lloyd Wright of all creation…and He is inviting us to take part in His creation. HE IS U2 inviting us onto the stage for a moment in the Concert of Ages…to sing backup, to strum a chord, or to dance wildly to the rhythm of Life that He’s pounding out. THIS IS OUR GOD, and only He knows every chapter in His Story, every line that will be drawn on the blueprint of Creation & (re)Creation, & when the final curtain will fall. It’s all for His purpose…for His story. THIS IS OUR GOD.
